Candidates should have 4-6 years of experience as a Data Engineer, Database Administrator, or similar role with a strong focus on MongoDB. Proficiency is required in designing, implementing, and managing MongoDB shared clusters and replica sets, along with 3-6 years of experience in Node.js, Go, Python, or Java. Experience developing and deploying microservices or APIs that interact with databases, a solid understanding of database concepts, familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and experience with version control systems like Git are also necessary. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills are essential, as is a willingness to learn new technologies. Comfort with Linux or OSX as a desktop development environment and strong team player qualities are required. Bonus points for experience with Kafka, ksql, Kafka Connect, PostgreSQL, ELK, building data pipelines and lakes in AWS, and data operations using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and/or Salt.
The Software Engineer, Database will design, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and loading data into and out of MongoDB. They will manage, monitor, and optimize MongoDB clusters for performance, availability, and security, including sharding, replication, and backup/recovery strategies. Responsibilities include developing and deploying RESTful APIs and microservices that interact with MongoDB, collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions, and implementing data governance, data quality, and data security best practices for MongoDB environments. The role also involves troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues, participating in code reviews and architectural discussions, and staying up-to-date with the latest trends in the NoSQL database space, particularly with MongoDB.
