Strong proficiency in Python (3.x)
Experience with database protocols (e.g., JDBC/ODBC, PostgreSQL/MySQL wire protocol, gRPC, REST, or similar)
Solid understanding of SQL and relational database concepts
Experience with data processing libraries (e.g., Pandas, Arrow, Numpy, Polars) and/or distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Ray, Dask)
Familiarity with HTTP, authentication, and network protocols
Experience with building and distributing Python packages (PyPI, wheels, dependency management)
Strong testing, debugging, and problem-solving skills
Demonstration of ownership, grit and bias for action
Ability to clearly articulate ideas in writing (e.g., Slack, GitHub PRs, Design Documents)
Ability to travel occasionally for onboarding, offsites, customer engagements, and company events

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain Python client libraries for Trino connectivity and query execution for the Starburst Enterprise Platform or Starburst Galaxy
Develop clean, idiomatic APIs for interacting with Trino/Starburst systems
Collaborate with backend engineers to support new features and protocol extensions
Ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability of client libraries
Write tests, documentation, and examples for internal and external developers
Contribute to packaging, distribution, and versioning of Python packages
Work in a fast-paced environment with focused work and minimal meetings
Provide exceptional customer support for internal and external customers
