Requirements

  • Relevant experience as a Service Designer or similar field
  • Working with the Government Digital Service (GDS) design principles
  • Experience advocating for User-Centred Design
  • Experience negotiating with and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Working with Design systems/libraries, style guides and existing patterns/guidelines
  • Set yourself apart (Desirable)
  • Working in an Agile or similar multidisciplinary environment
  • Using HTML, Markdown, Nunjucks or other prototyping languages
  • Strong accessibility knowledge
  • Leading a team or mentoring junior designers

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and identify user needs
  • Support User Researchers in gathering insights from users to inform design decisions
  • Champion user-centred design practices and effectively communicate the value of design - emphasising inclusivity, accessibility, and environmental sustainability
  • Create service blueprints and user journey maps to visualise the end-to-end experience and solve complex problems
  • Facilitate workshops with stakeholders and delivery teams to maintain alignment, encourage engagement, and gather insights
  • Ensure adherence to the client’s design standards, systems, and best practices
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams—including Interaction Designers, User Researchers, Content Designers, Developers, and Performance Analysts
  • Confidently present work and rationale to both internal teams and client stakeholders
  • Use evidence and data to iterate on designs, form hypotheses, and validate them through testing
