Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in individual life underwriting, with an additional 4 years of work experience potentially substituting for the degree. They should have prior experience with an approval authority of $1,000,000, and preferably with $2,000,000 and EKG approval authorities. Desirable qualifications include ALMI designation(s) or similar coursework, FLMI and/or FALU designation(s), and a strong understanding of life insurance, risk selection, and medical terminology.
The Senior Underwriter will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating risk for life insurance applications according to established guidelines, processing applications efficiently and communicating underwriting decisions to sales partners. They will handle complex cases, collaborate with the Medical Director, reinsurance department, and sales partners, and maintain detailed records of underwriting decisions. Additionally, the role involves establishing relationships with sales partners, coordinating with other company departments, and continually seeking ways to improve underwriting processes while maintaining industry knowledge and adhering to company policies and procedures.
