Requirements

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical equipment analysis and building energy systems. Deep technical expertise in HVAC, refrigeration, and other mechanical systems common in residential, commercial, and industrial spaces is required, including a comprehensive understanding of equipment efficiency and building/system design interactions to achieve enhanced energy performance. Familiarity with technologies such as heat pump technologies, energy and heat recovery systems, dedicated outdoor air systems, refrigeration systems, motor driven systems, low and zero global warming potential refrigerants, thermal energy storage, and load management / demand flexibility is essential. Experience with building energy modeling software (e.g., EnergyPlus) is desired.

Responsibilities

The Senior Staff Engineer will develop and lead both short-term and long-term codes and standards strategy development, engaging with stakeholders at state and federal levels. They will contribute to successful codes and standards proceedings, test procedure development, negotiated rulemakings, and model codes, including reach/stretch codes. The role involves conducting research and analysis related to mechanical equipment and building energy performance, and advising on strategies to achieve enhanced energy efficiency.
