Candidates must possess at least 5 years of habitational underwriting or insurance experience, with a strong understanding of habitational insurance products, coverages, and underwriting principles. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience is preferred, as is experience with retail agency relationships. The ideal candidate will be located in the Eastern territory, have a working knowledge of the East Coast insurance landscape, and demonstrate curiosity, a strong work ethic, self-accountability, a positive attitude, humility, and a passion for learning and sharing knowledge. Excellent verbal and written communication and strong analytical skills with attention to detail are also required.
The Senior Specialty Underwriter will play a key role in establishing the company's presence in the light-nonadmitted market by quoting and releasing new business that exceeds user authority thresholds or is referred from an underwriting algorithm. Responsibilities include analyzing and approving policy changes in compliance with guidelines and regulations, maintaining familiarity with E&S state insurance regulations and ISO rules, and fostering open communication with team members and partners. The role also involves monitoring the E&S portfolio, supporting marketing efforts, completing special projects, and potentially traveling less than 10% of the time.
