The Kora Global team is at the forefront of re-imagining Apache Kafka as a cloud-native, serverless, multi-tenant data platform. We focus on building the next generation of Kafka by pushing the boundaries of distributed system design. Our team is responsible for critical elements of Confluent's global replication infrastructure, including Cluster Linking, MultiRegion Cluster (MRC), and Confluent Replicator, as well as developing new global replication technologies. These solutions enable customers to deploy and manage Confluent clusters across multiple regions for high availability and disaster recovery.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Kora Global team, you will play a key role in developing and enhancing Confluent's global replication offerings. You will drive technical solutions end-to-end, collaborating closely with the team and stakeholders to design, architect, and develop high-quality solutions. This role involves working on highly available, reliable, secure, scalable, and multi-tenant aspects of Kora's orchestration layer.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve Confluent's global replication offerings.
• Drive technical solutions from design to implementation.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other team members.
• Focus on building highly available, reliable, secure, scalable, and multi-tenant distributed systems.
• Contribute to the next generation of Kafka by pushing the boundaries of distributed system design.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 2-3+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure and/or SaaS/PaaS services experience.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
• Experience building and operating large-scale systems in the Cloud.
• Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network, operating systems, etc.).
• A self-starter with the ability to work effectively in teams.
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go, or other statically typed languages.

What Gives You an Edge

• In-depth familiarity with the JVM.
• A strong background in distributed storage systems or databases.
• Experience/knowledge with public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP), Kubernetes, and microservices.
• Interest in evangelism (giving talks at tech conferences, writing blog posts evangelizing Kafka).
• Experience working on multi-region databases or data storage.
