Job Title: Software Engineer, Developer Productivity

Position Overview
The Developer Productivity team at Affirm exists to make work better for every engineer. Our mission is to simplify and accelerate software development across the company. We own the entire space between a developer’s laptop and production, including ephemeral dev environments, CI/CD pipelines, test automation frameworks, dependency management, and release engineering. Our tools and platforms enable engineers to ship code quickly, safely, and with confidence. This team supports over 900 engineers working across a broad stack in a hypergrowth Fintech environment—a complex, high-leverage challenge with impact at scale.
Responsibilities
- Ownership and Delivery: Be responsible for owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring everyone is supported throughout delivery.
- Collaboration: Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics. Participate in ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs.
- Problem Solving: Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them.
- Operations and Availability: Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts.
- Culture of Quality: Foster a culture of quality and ownership on your team by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and tech talks.
- Talent Development: Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.
Requirements
- Experience: 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
- Distributed Systems: Proven track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Infrastructure Components: Active experience building scalable infrastructure components including pipelines (Jenkins, Buildkite, GitHub Actions), configuration management, and automation.
- Technical Planning: Experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design. You write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
- Codebase Navigation: Proficient at making significant changes in a large codebase and have developed a suite of tools and practices that enable you and your team to do so safely.
- Ownership and Growth: Demonstrated ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, manager, and stakeholders.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team.
- Education: Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

- Employees new to Affirm typically start at the beginning of the pay range. Affirm provides a simple and transparent pay structure based on factors including location, experience, and job-related skills.
- Total Compensation: Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical).
