Ashby is seeking an Engineering Manager to help build a different type of engineering team and culture. This role focuses on growing engineers, empowering them with ownership, and fostering an environment that minimizes distractions. The ideal candidate will have a broad skillset, blending technical and product management skills with customer empathy and business context. The Director of Engineering, Europe, will focus on building their team, their skills to thrive with the ownership they’re given, and an environment that empowers them to do their best work consistently, with little distraction. The team currently consists of 25+ engineers, and the goal is to maintain a manageable team size of around 10 direct reports.

Requirements

  • Broad skillset encompassing technical, product management, customer empathy, and business context.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring engineers.
  • Ability to influence and guide ICs towards optimal decisions.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of ownership and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Building and growing the engineering team in Europe.
  • Focusing on individual engineer development and coaching.
  • Helping engineers to self-solve problems and take ownership of projects.
  • Providing feedback on product and technical specs to influence engineer decisions.
  • Contributing to projects alongside engineers, providing feedback and coaching.
  • Rethinking traditional management practices to empower engineers.
  • Working with approximately 10 direct reports.
