Position Overview

As a Senior Software Engineering Manager, you will have the opportunity to shape, transform, and create an exceptional experience for engineers at Marqeta. Your role will involve identifying, developing, and leading strategic investments to accelerate development iterations, enhance productivity, and promote developer happiness. You will boost developer productivity through the successful adoption of AI-driven tools and drive engagement by onboarding and expanding a world-class engineering organization through learning and knowledge sharing. The ideal candidate is a strong thought leader in the developer productivity space and an experienced software developer. You are a self-starter who will drive projects and lead team members to achieve desired outcomes. You are an experienced manager passionate about developer productivity and happiness.

The Impact You'll Have

• Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and craft of your team’s projects, ensuring delivered solutions are highly relevant to developer productivity and happiness, creating indispensable tools for users.
• Promote and influence a data-driven culture across the organization, using objective measurements as the primary means of communication to guide project execution, decision-making, and progress tracking.
• Build relationships across Engineering. Conduct regular DevEx surveys within Marqeta, leverage developer feedback to build and prioritize a strategy and roadmap for your team, and for products that may span multiple teams and the entire company.
• Clearly articulate projects, key results, and product strategy in simple and clear narratives, easily understood by your team, Marqeta’s developer community, and engineering leadership.
• Utilize extensive management and technical expertise to manage, mentor, and recruit engineers, promoting developer productivity within your team and across Marqeta.

• Build, manage, and inspire the developer experience team to achieve world-class developer experience goals within Marqeta, recruiting engineering talent as needed.
• Establish and foster a team environment where engineers can consistently address Marqeta's most significant challenges in a psychologically safe setting, cultivating a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and experimentation.
• Develop superior tooling and metrics to understand the health of our entire SDLC systems. Establish and foster a data-driven engineering culture.
• Solve problems for developers by understanding their needs and devising both tactical and strategic solutions.
• Act as an evangelist for developer experience and partner with engineering teams to share the Developer Experience’s mission, vision, and roadmap.
• Define DevEx survey questions, conduct DevEx surveys across the engineering organization in Marqeta, collect and analyze feedback, and define areas of execution to achieve world-class developer experience for all Marqeta engineering teams.
• Enable Marqeta developers by driving the adoption of Gen-AI apps with clearly defined success measurements (e.g., utilizing Github Copilot and Amazon Q Developer as AI-assisted coding tools).
• Drive adoption of newly created tools and services from your team, managing expectations and communication with the development community and Marqeta’s engineering leadership.
• Work with developers to resolve their day-to-day issues, directing your team to build scalable and self-serviceable solutions to fix or mitigate these issues.
• Review and provide feedback on features, technology, architecture, designs, time & budget estimates, and test strategies.
• Manage project risks and engage in creative problem-solving.
• Develop and evolve engineering and business processes to optimize team efficiency.
• Partner with other teams across Marqeta on achieving common goals.
