Requirements

  • Expertise in OSHA and EPA regulations including beryllium, respiratory protection, machine guarding, material handling, ergonomics, PPE, hazardous and solid waste management, air and water permitting, RCRA corrective action, stormwater, wastewater management, and radiation
  • Proven leadership skills with ability to coach and lead teams of technical professionals, including a group of 4-6 senior professionals, four technicians, and an administrative person
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to a team-based work environment
  • Ability to partner with and influence senior business leaders, hourly employees, and external stakeholders such as LEPC, law enforcement, EMS, and county commissioners
  • Experience managing all financial aspects of EHS function including budgeting, cost control, continuous improvement, and organizational results
  • Ability to lead cross-site teams/initiatives and interface with key cross-functional and operational groups

Responsibilities

  • Plan, administer, and supervise ongoing environmental, health, and safety (EHS) program in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Act, EPA requirements, applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations, and Materion’s EHS systems, processes, and programs at the largest site
  • Direct EHS efforts to protect employees and company against harm, maintain safe working conditions, and reduce environmental footprint
  • Formulate, implement, and enforce work standards and procedures; identify risk prevention areas including hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions
  • Ensure compliance and reporting requirements of all applicable federal or state regulations; support public relations initiatives and outreach efforts
  • Support local EHS staff to achieve objectives; advise plant leader and management team on EHS concerns and problem corrections
  • Lead and oversee Environmental, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Occupational Health staff and programs; provide leadership, direction, and support in these arenas
  • Coordinate EHS improvement efforts with site managers and senior site leader; participate in corporate EHS strategic planning
  • Support majority of EHS-related ESG efforts and local workers’ compensation
  • Advise site leadership on design, practice, and compliance with EHS policies to comply with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Formulate, document, and maintain site-specific general safety and health policies; implement corporate H&S policies and procedures across a 650-acre campus with 6 business units
  • Collaborate with site management, state authorities (e.g., OEPA), and operations personnel for compliance with regulations on air, water, hazardous and solid waste management, and RCRA corrective actions
  • Overall environmental management responsibility for compliance with ISO 14001 requirements
  • Collaborate with site management, state and federal authorities, and operations personnel for compliance with OSHA regulations such as beryllium, machine guarding, radiation, mobile equipment, and material handling
