Senior Data Scientist - Specialty Care

Position Overview

Spring Health is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our Advanced Analytics team, embedded within the Specialty Care group. This role is crucial for leading technical innovation to drive targeted outreach and scale Specialty Care utilization. You will leverage diverse and novel data sources, working in close partnership with product, design, and engineering teams. The ideal candidate is comfortable with ambiguity, possesses strong analytical expertise, and excels at driving rapid experimentation to uncover actionable strategies that enhance member engagement and health outcomes within Specialty Care.

This is a full-time, remote-eligible position, reporting to the Associate Director of Data Science under the CFO.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Analytical Strategy for Specialty Care: Own the end-to-end analytical strategy to increase Specialty Care utilization. Develop and apply advanced methods, including AI, predictive modeling, classification, and clustering, to identify and segment at-risk members for high-acuity conditions. Your work will directly influence product strategy, de-risk new initiatives, and drive measurable business outcomes.
  • Drive Rapid Experimentation and Outreach: Design and execute a rapid experimentation roadmap to test, validate, and scale targeted member outreach strategies. This will involve quasi-experimental approaches to measuring impact. Analyze results to provide clear recommendations on initiatives to pursue, shaping the pod’s data-driven approach.
  • Act as an Embedded Technical Leader: Serve as the dedicated data science lead within the Specialty Care product pod. Partner closely with product management and design to influence the team's roadmap, define success metrics, and ensure strategic decisions are grounded in rigorous analysis.
  • Leverage Diverse and Complex Data: Work with large, multi-source datasets to perform feature engineering and uncover novel insights. This includes both formal analysis and "scrappy" data sourcing to quickly answer critical business questions. Coordinate closely with a partnered Analytic Engineer and Data Analyst embedded with Speciality Care.

What Success Looks Like

  • Incremental increase in Specialty Care utilization.
  • Number of at-risk members identified.
  • Achieving quarterly experiment velocity goals.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional data science experience.
  • Hands-on experience with experimentation, hypothesis testing, and quasi-experimental methods.
  • Proficiency with SQL and Python.
  • Experience with data modeling via dbt or similar tools.
  • Experience working with large, multi-source datasets.
