Requirements

  • JD from an accredited U.S. law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Minimum of 7 years of practice as a US licensed attorney, ideally a combination of law firm practice and in-house experience – preferably in the life sciences industry
  • Ability to manage a global client base and calendar with the ability to balance numerous cross functional matters and prioritize effectively as business needs dictate
  • Excellent leadership qualities, including strategic thinking and attention to mentoring and development of other team members
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with associates at all levels of the company, from most junior to most senior, employing a service-oriented approach

Responsibilities

  • Serve as one of the legal and compliance team’s primary contacts in the US at Abcam’s Waltham site and be a person of influence
  • Manage a team consisting of a contracts manager and paralegal, helping to build efficient contracting processes through CLM and working on continuous process improvement initiatives
  • Act as the legal lead for global sales and business development teams, supporting negotiation and drafting of MSAs, custom development agreements, supply agreements, licenses, collaboration agreements, research agreements, etc
  • Partner with specialist attorneys within Abcam/Danaher and externally on IP, employment, regulatory, compliance, M&A, joint venture/strategic partnership, and other matters; manage US-based disputes, including litigations
  • Develop and provide training for the global business with respect to legal issues, policies, and procedures
  • Represent the Legal function in various leadership meetings and actively contribute to the development and good business conduct of Abcam’s business
  • Work directly with associates at all levels across Commercial (sales, marketing, business development), Product (development and management), Operations (supply chain, manufacturing, EH&S, real estate), and Compliance and Enablement (QARA/MAPPS)
