Requirements

  • Advanced expertise in CAD design for data center infrastructure, including detailed technical drawings and 3D models for high-density white space environments
  • Ability to independently develop constructible, scalable, and efficient infrastructure solutions under general guidance
  • Sound engineering judgment to resolve complex design challenges and propose creative solutions
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with senior mechanical, electrical, and network engineers
  • Proficiency in producing construction-ready drawings (plans, sections, elevations, details) with minimal supervision
  • Skills in 3D modeling, spatial conflict resolution, visualizations, and renderings
  • Knowledge of industry standards, Lambda’s design philosophy, high-density power distribution, cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, liquid cooling), overhead infrastructure, cabinet layouts, and P&IDs
  • Ability to work hybrid in San Jose office 4 days per week (Tuesday WFH), with 15% travel to data center sites

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop and refine CAD drawings for high-density data center power distribution systems (PDU layouts, whip routing, RPP placements, power pathways), optimizing load balance, redundancy, scalability, constructability, and safety
  • Design and coordinate advanced cooling system layouts (CRAC/CRAH placements, airflow/containment optimization, sensor integration) and detailed liquid cooling systems (CDU placements, piping networks, rack-level distribution)
  • Design complex overhead cabling and support systems (ladder racks, baskets, trays, structured cabling routes), resolving clashes via spatial modeling and ensuring power/data segregation
  • Produce precise floor plans for high-density cabinet layouts, network gear placement, and service clearances, incorporating operational access, thermal management, and compliance
  • Generate detailed P&IDs for liquid cooling networks (supply/return piping, manifolds, isolation valves), evaluating integration and proposing optimizations
  • Develop construction-ready drawings (plans, sections, elevations, details); establish, refine, and maintain Lambda’s drawing templates, symbol libraries, and documentation standards
  • Interface with senior mechanical, electrical, and network engineers to align/validate designs; lead/contribute to design review meetings and resolve conflicts
  • Build high-fidelity 3D models for spatial conflict identification, constructability validation, coordination, visualizations, and stakeholder presentations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Lambda’s CAD and documentation standards, identifying opportunities based on experience

Lambda

Cloud-based GPU services for AI training

About Lambda

Lambda Labs provides cloud-based services for artificial intelligence (AI) training and inference, focusing on large language models and generative AI. Their main product, the AI Developer Cloud, utilizes NVIDIA's GH200 Grace Hopper™ Superchip to deliver efficient and cost-effective GPU resources. Customers can access on-demand and reserved cloud GPUs, which are essential for processing large datasets quickly, with pricing starting at $1.99 per hour for NVIDIA H100 instances. Lambda Labs serves AI developers and companies needing extensive GPU deployments, offering competitive pricing and infrastructure ownership options through their Lambda Echelon service. Additionally, they provide Lambda Stack, a software solution that simplifies the installation and management of AI-related tools for over 50,000 machine learning teams. The goal of Lambda Labs is to support AI development by providing accessible and efficient cloud GPU services.
