About eBay

At eBay, we're more than a global ecommerce leader — we’re changing the way the world shops and sells. Our platform empowers millions of buyers and sellers in more than 190 markets around the world. We’re committed to pushing boundaries and leaving our mark as we reinvent the future of ecommerce for enthusiasts.

Our customers are our compass, authenticity thrives, bold ideas are welcome, and everyone can bring their unique selves to work — every day. We're in this together, sustaining the future of our customers, our company, and our planet.

Join a team of passionate thinkers, innovators, and dreamers — and help us connect people and build communities to create economic opportunity for all. eBay is a global commerce leader that allows you to shape how the world buys, sells, and gives. You’ll be part of a work culture that’s been genuinely committed to diversity and inclusion since its founding 30 years ago. We are looking for people with drive, ideas, and a passion for helping small businesses succeed to help craft the future of eBay -- does this sound like you? If so, we’d love to talk to you!

About the Team

Buyer Experience is a global team responsible for the suite of user experiences for eBay and the underlying platforms that run them. You will be part of a team responsible for building out the newest eBay experience -- live shopping platform: eBay Live. Live shopping naturally fits into the eBay ethos -- focused largely on unique items, collectibles and fashion, and enabling direct communication between buyers and sellers. This is a relatively new trend in the US and Europe, growing quickly, and is already broadly established in APAC.

We are looking to hire a passionate, collaborative and motivated Backend Software Engineer, who will help us develop and evolve eBay Live to be a market leader in live shopping and become a key part of the global eBay platform.

Responsibilities

  • You will be a member of our core engineering team, focused on developing a variety of services and experiences for both buyer and seller experiences of eBay Live.
  • Collaborate closely with peers, product managers, business analysts and operations teams to develop innovative solutions that meet functional and non-functional standards and expectations. We greatly value ownership and initiative, and follow core agile principles, without the dogma
  • Work across multiple eBay domains
  • Be involved in the entire development process -- from design to release, actively participate in code and ADR reviews and help the team build the forward-looking, modern platform
  • Triage and debug production issues
  • Mentor junior team members

Job Requirements

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or related field or 10 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills -- but of course
  • Thorough understanding of software development processes and best practices, modern DevOps principles and continuous delivery
  • Proven experience in building large, reliable, scalable distributed systems
  • Strong experience with modern programming languages. Java is a must (experience (or at least interest) with Scala is a big plus)
  • Strong experience with core web technologies
  • Proven experience in architecting scalable backend systems
  • Hands on experience with GraphQL is a big plus
  • Past experience with live commerce is a big plus
  • Experience with web (javascript/nodejs) and/or native (Android, iOS) is a plus
