Alma is seeking a mission-oriented Senior Analytics Engineer to join their team. This role involves designing, building, and optimizing information systems to transform raw data into actionable business metrics for analysts and stakeholders. The Senior Analytics Engineer will play a key role in making performant and reliable data accessible to the organization for effective evaluation and operation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in data engineering or analytics engineering, focusing on building and optimizing data pipelines and data warehouses.
  • Advanced SQL skills with proven experience in writing and optimizing complex, performant queries in data warehouse environments like Redshift.
  • Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts (e.g., dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT patterns) and extensive hands-on experience with data warehouse technologies, particularly Redshift, including performance tuning and optimization.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Python for data engineering, including developing custom ETL/ELT scripts, working with data pipeline frameworks (e.g., Singer.io), and interacting with APIs.
  • Demonstrable expertise in data modeling, data transformation, and ensuring data quality and reliability in production systems.
  • Experience with dbt is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Looker, Metabase) is a plus.
  • Passion for building scalable, maintainable, and production-ready data solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize data models and queries to transform raw data into useful, actionable, and performant business metrics.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of Alma’s data pipeline architecture, leveraging Python for custom ETL/ELT processes, including the creation and maintenance of Singer taps and other data ingestion solutions.
  • Optimize and maintain the data warehouse (Redshift) for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve data quality, reliability, and performance issues across the data lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and implement robust processes for ingesting data from diverse internal and external sources.
  • Champion and implement data governance best practices and ensure compliance with data policies.
  • Partner with the data team and cross-functional stakeholders to understand evolving business needs, prioritize data initiatives, and contribute to the data strategy.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of testing frameworks and monitoring solutions for data pipelines.
