Requirements

Candidates should have 5+ years of progressive experience in data engineering or analytics engineering, with a strong emphasis on building and optimizing data pipelines and data warehouses. They should possess advanced SQL skills, with proven experience in writing complex, performant queries and optimizing them in a data warehouse environment like Redshift. A deep understanding of data warehousing concepts (e.g., dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT patterns) and extensive hands-on experience with data warehouse technologies, particularly Redshift, including performance tuning and optimization is required. Strong hands-on experience with Python for data engineering, including developing custom ETL/ELT scripts, working with data pipeline frameworks (e.g., Singer.io), and interacting with APIs is necessary, as is demonstrable expertise in data modeling, data transformation, and ensuring data quality and reliability in production systems. Experience with dbt is highly desirable, and familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Looker, Metabase) is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Senior Analytics Engineer II will design, build, and optimize data models and queries to transform raw data into useful, actionable, and performant business metrics. They will lead the development and enhancement of Alma’s data pipeline architecture, leveraging Python for custom ETL/ELT processes, including the creation and maintenance of Singer taps and other data ingestion solutions. This role involves optimizing and maintaining the data warehouse (Redshift) for performance, scalability, and reliability, proactively identifying, diagnosing, and resolving data quality, reliability, and performance issues across the data lifecycle. The Senior Analytics Engineer II will collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and implement robust processes for ingesting data from diverse internal and external sources, champion and implement data governance best practices and ensure compliance with data policies, and partner with the data team and cross-functional stakeholders to understand evolving business needs, prioritize data initiatives, and contribute to the data strategy. They will also contribute to the design and implementation of testing frameworks and monitoring solutions for data pipelines.
