Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED with minimum 5 years professional industrial hygiene experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, safety, engineering, or related degree with minimum 2 years professional industrial hygiene or related experience
  • Highly motivated, customer centered, self-starter capable of working with limited direct oversight
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to think strategically and work towards continual improvement of internal processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), physically perform all tasks in the field, and pass hair drug test and physical
  • Valid driver’s license (MPC determines valid status)
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without need for future VISA sponsorship
  • Ability to work schedules 9/80, 5/40 or 4/10, with after hours calls several times a quarter and support TAR/Outages at least three times a year; business hours start at 7 AM
  • Travel requirement of 5% or less

Responsibilities

  • Provide support as the point of contact for an operations area team on all safety issues
  • Support refinery emergency response efforts as part of the Incident Command structure
  • Provide safety related input in the development and review of operating procedures
  • Serve as an advocate for first line employees to help them safely complete work
  • Conduct exposure assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, indoor air quality investigations, response to employee concerns, air monitoring during emergency responses, and recommend corrective action to minimize exposure risk during routine operations, turnarounds, and capital projects
  • Collect, review, document, and summarize exposure assessment and monitoring data to comply with legal and corporate requirements using industrial hygiene databases; identify potential health stressors and determine need for and effectiveness of exposure control methods
  • Prepare and maintain standards, procedures, and training for industrial hygiene related topics to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards
  • Maintain and update exposure based medical surveillance programs
  • Manage and maintain industrial hygiene equipment and associated software
  • Conduct industrial hygiene audits following the MPC collaborative audit process
  • Serve as Corporate and local subject matter expert in chemical, physical, and biological agent exposure control, emergency response air monitoring techniques, PPE, and Industrial Hygiene sampling equipment
  • Responsible for management of all Industrial Hygiene programs
