Requirements

  • Deep expertise in radio and front-end design and validation in 400MHz to 70GHz ISM bands
  • Deep expertise in encoding methods and modulation schemes such as OFDM, Frequency hopping, QAM, GFSK, UWB, convolution encoding, STBC
  • Deep expertise in RF emission requirements and testing for FCC, ETSI, Radio and Emission qualifications
  • Deep expertise in debugging RF issues, including setting up, running, and evaluating TIS, TRP, BER, Return Loss, Desense, radiation patterns, etc
  • Deep expertise in RF simulation tools like CST or HFSS
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in RF/Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in RF design, development, and validation, with a proven track record of bringing products to market
  • Proficient with the operation of RF instruments such as signal generator, vector network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, power meter, IQxel, etc
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with an ability to tackle complex, ambiguous problems
  • Additional desirable: Familiarity with one or more common MAC Layer protocols (WiFi, BLE, Zigbee, Z-wave) or willingness to learn
  • Additional desirable: Familiarity with MAC level protocol analyzers
  • Additional desirable: Familiarity with Cellular communications
  • Additional desirable: C or Python coding experience
  • Additional desirable: Familiarity with MATLAB

Responsibilities

  • Own SimpliSafe’s RF performance across products, optimizing performance for WiFi, BLE, Radar, Proprietary SubG protocols, Wi-SUN, LoRa, etc
  • Build SimpliSafe’s RF testing capabilities including test plans and equipment selection
  • Manage ODMs and third-party labs in the design and testing of products and antennas
  • Characterize and compare different wireless chipsets and drive selection
  • Characterize and compare antenna performances and drive selection
  • Review PRDs and author RF technical requirements to meet product requirements
  • Root cause RF field related issues
  • Work with Electrical Engineers to optimize board layouts for RF and immunity
  • Work with Mechanical Engineers to optimize design and mechanical structure for RF
  • Evaluate and recommend new radio technologies and chipsets for SimpliSafe products and roadmap
