Requirements

  • Ability to work remotely within the United States, or from GiveWell offices in Oakland, CA or Brooklyn, NYC (preferred but not required)
  • For international applicants: Residency/work authorization in supported countries (e.g., UK, Canada via Employer of Record), with potential for exceptional candidates in other locations; must work in a time zone sharing 2-3 hour overlap with 9am-5pm US time (incomplete in description)

Responsibilities

  • Quality checking published pages and spreadsheets used for decision-making
  • Writing public summaries of reasoning behind grant decisions
  • Answering defined research questions via desk research (e.g., options for maize farmers in Malawi to sell products, or access to health commodities in rural Mozambique)
  • Summarizing results from grantees' monitoring and evaluation reports
  • Updating cost-effectiveness analyses with new information or analysis from other staff
  • Exploring ways to use AI tools to increase team efficiency and quality
  • Providing occasional project management support, including maintaining information systems, tracking progress, stakeholder check-ins, scheduling and note-taking for calls, and driving investigations forward (especially during subteam embeds)
  • Contributing to investigations across research subteams, with potential temporary or permanent embeds in grantmaking subteams (e.g., malaria, water quality, vaccinations)
