Requirements

  • Apprenticeship or formal training in mechanics, mechanical design, and plastics knowledge (or comparable combination of education, training, and work experience)
  • Reliability Technician I: 0 to 3 years of related experience and/or hands-on technical work and writing experience
  • Reliability Technician II: 3 to 5 years of related experience and/or hands-on technical work and writing experience
  • Knowledge of Total Quality Management (helpful)
  • Ability to disassemble and manipulate products in an organized manner to investigate failure causes
  • Familiarity with precision measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, comparators, gauges, load and tensile testers)
  • Ability to read, understand, and use blueprints, schematics, and test procedures
  • Ability to use a computer and various software applications, including spreadsheet software
  • Data collection, technical writing, and reporting skills
  • Mathematical skills: Ability to apply operations to frequency distribution, test reliability/validity, analysis of variance, correlation, sampling theory, factor analysis; ability to use a calculator for routine math
  • Reasoning ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Responsibilities

  • Confer with Failure Analysis personnel to assign project priorities, review test plans, procedures, and objectives
  • Disassemble products to investigate and analyze components; examine for defects related to manufacturing, design, installation, and/or service
  • Set up, observe, and conduct tests in field and laboratory conditions on irrigation products, subassemblies, components, and/or materials to investigate performance and identify root causes of failure
  • Record test procedures, collect test data, enter results into database, and prepare written reports
  • Confer with Failure Analysis personnel on data analysis and interpretation to determine failure causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Perform other required duties as needed
