Requirements

  • Adheres to the Organization Compliance Program, including all regulatory and Organization policy requirements
  • Maintains competency with all emergency operational procedures, including initiating CPR and emergency measures
  • Complies with organization, company, federal, state, and local regulations for administering medications, IV moderate sedation, and point-of-care laboratory testing
  • Practices in compliance with state regulations for additional tasks designated by the Physician
  • Maintains sterile technique when acting as scrub technologist
  • Operates facility equipment and technology (e.g., patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices, sterilizers, computers) safely and efficiently
  • Inspects operation of all facility equipment and reports malfunctions

Responsibilities

  • Supports and drives organization quality standards through meeting regulatory/accrediting requirements and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) practices, including implementation of quality goals and action plans
  • Addresses and acts on adverse events and action thresholds in collaboration with facility management
  • Maintains integrity of medical records and other administrative/operational records; complies with data collection and auditing activities
  • Maintains facility environmental integrity and safety
  • Obtains medical history, discusses procedure, answers questions, and performs nursing assessment on the day of the procedure
  • Provides education to patients and families regarding post-procedure care of vascular access
  • Monitors patient condition pre, during, and post-procedure, especially for moderate sedation and contrast media reactions
  • Acts as a resource for patients, addressing concerns and communicating issues to facility management
  • Completes accurate documentation of patient information from admission to discharge
  • Confirms written orders, consents, and lab work; prepares lab requisitions, delivers to labs, and reports results to physicians
  • Administers medications and IV moderate sedation per physician orders
  • Assists physician during procedure as scrub technologist
  • Assists with patient workflow by transporting patients
  • Performs IV insertion, point-of-care laboratory testing per physician orders
  • Performs additional tasks as designated by Physician
  • Provides regular communication with physicians; attends CQI meetings and reports on assigned topics
  • Assists facility management in verifying instruments/equipment with physicians and staff
  • Assists physician in completing and reporting state-required adverse event reports
