Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Medical Assistant qualification
For LPN: Active license in the state of practice required upon hire from the Board of Nursing
For Medical Assistant: National Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or National Registration as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologist (AMT); or National Certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Health Career Association; and Medical Assistant diploma
Knowledge of principles of growth and development and ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer's status
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department

Responsibilities

Coordinate patient care activities in the clinic, including rooming, taking vitals, scheduling, and order entry
Triage phone calls from patients and caregivers, routing to the appropriate individual if needed
Perform general nursing care to patients
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards
Prepare equipment and assist provider during procedures, treatments, examinations, and testing of patients
Observe, record, and report patient’s condition and reactions to drugs and treatments to provider
Oversee appointment scheduling and ensure preferences are given to patients in emergency situations; maintain timely flow of patients
Greet patients and prepare them for physical examination; screen patients for appropriate information including obtaining health history, taking vitals, and conducting nursing assessment; document in patient chart
Instruct patient in collection of samples and tests
Respond to patient phone calls in a timely manner with appropriate input from the physician
Educate patients and families about diagnostic process, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness
Suggest solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints
Maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials; ensure cleanliness; prepare list of medical supplies needed
Assure appropriate labeling
Communicate with physicians and other healthcare team members to provide excellent patient care
Work collaboratively with other clinic staff to solve practice-related problems
