  • Preferred: Certified Hemodialysis Nurse (CHN) - Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT) - Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Certified Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse (CPDN) - Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT) - Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) - Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) - Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Specialty Certification - The American Society of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ASHI) - Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Dialysis experience or critical care experience
  • Preferred: 1-3 years nursing experience if functioning as a home dialysis nurse and an additional 3 months experience in each of the specific modalities (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis)

Responsibilities

  • Performs and maintains knowledge and proficiency in technical skills for dialysis treatments
  • Provides oversight and delegation to department staff
  • Understands and ensures compliance related to water room equipment operation and function
  • Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, scope of care, performance improvement activities, safety, environmental, and infection control standards
  • Documents in the patient record according to departmental policy/procedure
  • Promotes and maintains documentation and an environment that is in compliance with state, federal, and regulatory agencies, including CMS/ESRD-Renal Network, and Quality Assurance and Process Improvement efforts
  • Coordinates care of patients in collaboration with Medical Director, Nephrologist, patients, families, other nursing staff, and all ancillary departments
  • Acts as a patient/family advocate; collaborates with the patient, family, and health care providers in providing patient care
  • Identifies patient/family learning needs; develops, implements, and evaluates an educational plan for patients
  • Provides patient education related to, but not limited to, the dialysis process and procedures related to that process, including care and management of dialysis accesses
