Requirements

  • Qualified Registered Nurse with ability to perform all essential job functions of a Registered Nurse
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development across patient populations: Infancy (Birth-1 yr), Pediatrics (1-11 yrs), Adolescent (12-17 yrs), Adulthood (18-65 yrs), Geriatric (over 65 yrs)
  • Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate unit workflow
  • Clinical expertise to act as frontline supervisor and resource, mentoring nursing personnel
  • Effective leadership skills supporting nursing department philosophy, objectives, and vision
  • Meets essential physical demands: Lifting 0-25# (floor to 36" and knee-waist), grasping light 8+ hrs/day
  • Commitment to hospital's mission, vision, core values, confidentiality, team environment, and compliance with safety principles, laws, regulations (e.g., CMS, OSHA)

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the Nursing Process to provide nursing care for patients throughout their life span and assume responsibility for outcomes of nursing care on shift
  • Act as Charge RN: provide direction to staff, coordinate assignments/duties, assist with monthly staffing schedule
  • Assist and mentor nursing personnel in patient planning and care management on a shift basis
  • Monitor patient care and unit processes for safe, customer-focused approach
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships with individuals, groups, and community
  • Maintain high clinical competency, share knowledge, serve as role model, and project high performance standards
  • Assure implementation and compliance with policies/procedures
  • Review patient plans of care with caregivers, offering suggestions/interventions for efficiency and quality
  • Coordinate and maintain appropriate staffing levels for efficiency and safe patient care
  • Coordinate patient flow in/out of unit, communicate staffing needs and bed availability
  • Assist with Performance Improvement Tools, conduct/participate in interdisciplinary rounds
  • Communicate with physicians, families, community agencies, social services, home care, and other disciplines
  • Facilitate resolution of physician/family concerns and report to management as necessary
  • Promote hospital values and work effectively in a team environment
