Requirements

Multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to contribute to designing and developing innovative medical devices or components/subsystems
Basic use of engineering tools (e.g., CAD, tolerance stacks, GD&T)

Awareness of product function and clinical environment
Detailed understanding of quality and regulatory requirements (Abbott, FDA, ISO regulations)
Detailed understanding of overall schedule to manage time and tasks
Ability to run complex problem-solving efforts with some oversight (e.g., identifies issues with minor downstream impacts; methodically completes test flow)
Ability to lead complex investigations with minimal oversight (e.g., correcting issues with component interactions during testing)
Ability to write protocols and reports with minimal oversight (e.g., complex spec sets or engineering studies with multiple outputs)
Ability to develop test strategies with multiple parallel arms and plan test flow with oversight
Ability to lead alignment through cross-functional R&D teams on strategy
Ability to act with minimum oversight on complex problems or activities and understand the "why" behind projects and tasks

Responsibilities

Participate or lead team in system engineering responsibilities
Establish requirements and specifications using knowledge of component interactions through entire system and downstream impacts of design, material selection, and processing on system function
Involved in test method and model development
Work with internal departments (assay, consumable, instrument teams) and external vendors to obtain prototype parts and understand their capabilities and limitations
Support Production, Complaints, Performance investigations, design reviews, and physician visits as needed
Manage projects within quality and regulatory requirements
Manage time and tasks within overall schedule
