Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering, a minimum of five years of progressive design experience of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems) for commercial and/or industrial facilities, and be registered as a Professional Engineer in one or more states with the ability to obtain registration through reciprocity within additional states. Prior experience with energy modeling of mechanical HVAC systems, responding to Requests for Proposals, estimating mechanical fees, performing facility or building load calculations, sizing ductwork and/or piping systems, preparing studies, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates, conducting construction administration and inspection activities, and working knowledge of design coordination on larger, multi-disciplined projects is required. Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills are also necessary.
As a Professional Mechanical Engineer, the individual will perform energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis while designing complex sustainable building performance systems, including equipment selection and sizing, heat load analysis, and the preparation of mechanical plans, specifications, design details, and construction documentation. They will also work alongside a multi-disciplined team of Engineering and Architecture professionals to provide planning, design, construction management, and commissioning services for a diverse portfolio of projects, including attending client presentations and interviews, meeting with code officials, and performing inspections and assessments at project sites. Furthermore, the role involves participation in project development and fee estimating, and opportunities may be available to serve as a Project Manager on mechanical-intensive projects and larger multi-disciplined projects.
