The mission of Speechify is to make sure that reading is never a barrier to learning.
Speechify's text-to-speech products are used by over 30 million people to convert various forms of text (PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, websites) into audio. This allows users to read faster, read more, and remember more. Speechify's offerings include iOS, Android, Mac apps, a Chrome Extension, and a Web App. The company has received recognition from Google as the Chrome Extension of the Year and from Apple as its App of the Day.
Speechify operates as a 100% distributed company with nearly 200 employees globally. The team comprises frontend and backend engineers, AI research scientists, and individuals from prominent companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, leading PhD programs such as Stanford, high-growth startups like Stripe, Vercel, and Bolt, and many company founders.
We are seeking a fast, product-minded engineer to own and ship critical user-facing features. This includes onboarding flows, in-app guidance, product documentation, "what's new" sections, and integrated support systems to ensure Speechify Studio is intuitive from the start. This role sits at the intersection of UX, frontend development, growth, and customer success.
The engineer will build React + Tailwind components, integrate tools like Intercom, Amplitude, and OpenAI APIs, and drive a seamless experience for both new and returning users. A key responsibility will be connecting analytics to lifecycle and customer engagement tools (email, in-app messages, advertising), working closely with marketing to bridge product and growth initiatives. Expect to own both the interface and the in-app language, shipping quickly and iterating constantly.
You will own critical surfaces that define the user experience from the initial interaction with Speechify. You will have the opportunity to ship frequently, collaborate across product and marketing teams, and play a key role in scaling user satisfaction, retention, and growth.
Speechify is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or any other legally protected status.
Text-to-speech application for accessibility
Speechify provides a text-to-speech application that helps users access information audibly. It is designed for a diverse audience, including students, professionals, and individuals with learning differences like dyslexia and ADHD. The application works by converting written text into spoken words, allowing users to listen to content through various platforms, including a Google Chrome extension, web app, and mobile apps for iOS and Android. This accessibility feature is particularly beneficial for those who prefer auditory learning or have difficulty reading. Unlike many competitors, Speechify offers a freemium model, where basic features are free, and advanced options are available through a subscription. This approach, along with partnerships with platforms like Medium and the Star Tribune, helps expand its reach to over 20 million users worldwide. The goal of Speechify is to eliminate reading barriers, enabling users to learn and retain information more effectively.
