A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field is required, along with 4+ years of experience in process engineering, systems engineering, or engineering operations in aerospace, defense, or autonomous vehicle domains. Key skills include strong understanding of software and hardware development lifecycles, experience with aerospace standards like DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754A, familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Git/GitLab, Jenkins, DOORS, Polarion, and excellent analytical, communication, and facilitation skills.
Merlin Labs is a venture-backed aerospace startup focused on building a non-human pilot for reduced crew and uncrewed flight, scaling alongside customers to address aviation challenges with autonomy. The role involves partnering with engineering, program, and quality teams in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment emphasizing scalability, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Strong candidates have 4+ years in process or systems engineering in aerospace/defense/autonomous domains, deep knowledge of standards like DO-178C and DO-254, experience with tools like Jira, Git, and DOORS, and excellent analytical and communication skills. Nice-to-haves include experience with FAA/NASA/DoD programs and autonomous systems or AI/ML integration.
Develops autonomous flight technology for aircraft
Merlin Labs develops autonomous flight technology, specifically the Merlin Pilot, an advanced system designed to operate aircraft without human intervention. This system can be integrated into various types of aircraft, making it adaptable to different sizes and ages. The technology is being developed in collaboration with aviation authorities like the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand to ensure it meets safety and regulatory standards. Unlike competitors, Merlin Labs takes a phased approach by initially pairing the autonomous system with human pilots, which helps ensure safety and build trust in the technology. The goal is to provide a scalable solution for commercial airlines, cargo transport companies, and private aircraft owners, positioning Merlin Labs as a significant player in the future of aviation.
