Ashby is seeking a curious, rigorous, and problem-solving Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) who also enjoys coding. The goal is to build a robust and reliable platform ("paved road") for excellent engineering teams to operate on. Ashby provides software for talent teams to create efficient, delightful, and respectful hiring processes. The company boasts notable customers such as Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake, with strong growth metrics, tens of millions in ARR, and over 2500 customers. This role is open to candidates who lean towards either Platform Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering, as the team performs both functions.

About the Role and How We Work

This role is described by Elénie, a Director of Engineering at Ashby, who transitioned from product to infrastructure due to the critical impact of unseen infrastructure work on customer experience. The SRE role at Ashby involves owning projects with minimal oversight, similar to Product Engineers. The team prioritizes practical solutions over rigid processes, avoiding unnecessary roadblocks for security and avoiding change management boards based on the lowest common denominator. However, the role demands a high degree of responsibility due to handling sensitive and confidential data. As Ashby grows, the need for reliability and security becomes paramount, requiring internal operations to evolve.

The company is at a critical growth phase, where scaling and delivering a seamless experience are crucial. The SRE will be instrumental in making sound decisions, debugging complex issues, and building a scalable, future-proof platform. The existing infrastructure team has established a secure and straightforward environment, emphasizing necessity before creating new services. The SRE will own projects end-to-end, impacting core aspects of the Ashby developer and user experience.

Potential projects include:

  • Optimizing Ashby's homegrown recruiting DSL-to-SQL compiler and developing tools to assist developers.
  • Creating automated guardrails for customer data security and privacy.
  • Facilitating faster feature delivery for developers through canary deployments.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering background with a focus on reliability and systems.
  • Proficiency in coding and a desire to build robust infrastructure.
  • Experience in site reliability engineering or platform engineering.
  • Ability to debug complex issues and make sound technical decisions.
  • Understanding of security and privacy principles.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a reliable and scalable platform for Ashby's users.
  • Optimize existing systems, such as the DSL-to-SQL compiler.
  • Implement security and privacy guardrails for customer data.
  • Support and enable faster feature delivery for the product team.
  • Own projects end-to-end, from conception to implementation.
  • Contribute to the evolution of internal infrastructure operations as the company scales.

Company Information

Ashby is a rapidly growing company that provides software to improve the hiring process for talent teams. Key metrics include:

  • Tens of millions in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR).
  • Over 100% year-over-year growth.
  • Over 2500 customers.
