Requirements

Strong backend infrastructure engineering experience, passionate about building data systems for real-time, batch, and AI systems
Expertise in distributed data processing
Familiarity with Spark, Flink, and other tools in the Hadoop environment (advantageous)
Ability to independently lead complex, high-impact initiatives from conception to production rollout
Experience collaborating with Product Managers to define vision
Architectural leadership skills to own and evolve scalable, secure, maintainable systems aligned with enterprise standards
Proficiency in system design to eliminate duplication, ensure clear responsibility boundaries, and align with business needs and scalability
Commitment to engineering excellence, including clean architecture, modern frameworks, quality gates, design patterns, and coding standards
Experience writing reference implementations, contributing to core libraries, and conducting in-depth code reviews
Skills in cost optimization, resource efficiency, and automation of manual processes
Ability to identify and build reusable components, services, and frameworks
Experience leading migrations of legacy systems to modern architectures and cloud-native paradigms
Strong collaboration skills to drive technical discussions, build consensus across engineering, product, and operational teams

Responsibilities

Independently lead complex, high-impact initiatives across eBay’s Data Platforms, from conception to successful production rollout
Collaborate with Product Managers to define the vision for the data platform at eBay
Own and evolve the architecture for core data platform systems, ensuring scalability, security, maintainability, and alignment with enterprise standards
Design systems to eliminate duplication, ensure clear responsibility boundaries, and align with business needs and future scalability
Champion clean architecture, promote modern frameworks, enforce quality gates, and ensure adherence to design patterns and coding standards
Lead by example: write reference implementations, contribute to core libraries, and conduct in-depth code reviews to influence standards and uplift team capabilities
Propose and drive engineering solutions for cost optimization, reduced operational overhead, improved resource efficiency, and automation of manual processes
Identify opportunities to build reusable components, services, and frameworks that accelerate feature delivery
Lead migrations of legacy systems into modern architectures and cloud-native paradigms with minimal disruption and high impact
Drive complex technical discussions, build consensus across engineering, product, and operational teams, and ensure smooth delivery of cross-functional projects
