Requirements

  • Highly desirable relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Special Education, or related human services/behavioural sciences (required or working towards achievement)
  • Practice expertise across disability services including risk assessment, safety planning and complex casework
  • Strong trauma-informed lens
  • Quality & compliance mindset (audits, case reviews, improvement planning, reporting)
  • Capability in leading and building practice standards

Responsibilities

  • Lead critical inquiry into risk, safety, stability and development, ensuring plans align with legislative and best practice requirements
  • Provide expert case advice on complex presentations; lead case reviews and reflective practice to embed evidence-informed approaches (e.g., person-centred and trauma-informed practice)
  • Champion person-centred active support and Positive Behaviour Support principles appropriate to disability and family contexts
  • Provide high-level consultation on risk assessment/management and escalation; contribute to quality case planning and review processes
  • Ensure practice is culturally safe and inclusive, and promotes participation of people supported and families/guardians in decisions within a human rights-based framework
  • Conduct practice audits and translate findings into improvement plans and targeted coaching
  • Maintain systems that support service and quality standards, targets and compliance; monitor and report on outcomes
  • Design and deliver professional development, mentoring and coaching to lift capability at all levels; foster a culture of reflective practice and high expectations
  • Model collaborative, empowering leadership that brings out the best in multidisciplinary teams
  • Analyse current practice, identifying trends and gaps in services, to determine areas for potential capability uplift
  • Partner with and foster a culture of alignment with outcomes teams to build internal capability in person-centred active support, positive behaviour support, and human rights principles appropriate to working with people with disability
  • Build purposeful relationships with internal teams and external partners; represent Melba at sector forums and stakeholder meetings
  • Support end-to-end internal customer experience (from enquiry to exit) by collaborating on service design, timely responses and fit-for-purpose supports that align with NDIS funding and pricing arrangements
  • Use data and case insights to inform service improvements; prepare concise reports and evaluations for governance and decision-making
