Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in public opinion research; experience in a newsroom and/or television environment is a plus
  • A solid understanding of survey research methodology including questionnaire design, survey sampling, likely voter modeling, and survey weighting
  • Experience with statistical analysis and statistical software packages (e.g., R, SPSS, STATA)
  • Interest in public opinion research as it relates to news and storytelling
  • Must be a strong communicator with the ability to translate polling data into clear, engaging news stories including data visualizations
  • Must have strong collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to work across various teams
  • Must be well-organized and able to handle multiple projects and news stories simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and consistently meet very tight deadlines
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as required, i.e., election season, breaking news events, etc
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and high standards
  • Required Education: BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Polling as well as platform and beat leaders on poll design and execution, including questionnaire design, fieldwork coordination, quality control, data analysis and methodological research
  • Ensure methodological rigor and precise standards in ABC News’ polling and poll reporting
  • Help conduct methodological research to improve the accuracy of ABC News’ polling
  • Help manage partnerships with ABC News’ polling providers and polling partners
  • Assist reporters and producers across the news division, as well as ABC’s owned stations, in finding and utilizing polling data in their reporting
  • Explore unique angles in storytelling in the polling space
  • Write analyses of ABC News polls and polls conducted by outside sources for both internal guidance and reporting on ABC News platforms
  • Assist in upholding ABC News’ poll reporting standards
  • Analyze exit polls on election nights for reporting across ABC News’ platforms
  • Maintain ABC News’ polling archive
