Requirements

  • Works under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist
  • Proficient knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, and regulation limitations
  • Knowledge of personal protective equipment and promotion of patient safety
  • Ability to work varied shifts including rotating days/evenings/nights/weekends/holidays/overnights (Inpatient)
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday with hybrid work schedule after training (Specialty)

Responsibilities

  • Assists in drug preparation, storage, distribution, and inventory management within inpatient and specialty pharmacy environments
  • Accurately inputs and/or prepares labels and packages inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions
  • Effectively communicates with nursing staff, physicians, providers, patients, customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management; participates in interdepartmental work groups and committees
  • Performs non-hazardous/hazardous sterile compounding
  • Performs medication distribution to clinics and critical access hospitals; repackages medications into unit dose forms
  • Performs clerical functions including billing, patient demographics, and pharmacy inventory
  • Assists with collection and maintenance of records for accreditations (e.g., Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, Joint Commission, NIOSH, OSHA)
  • Assists customers on the phone or in person
  • Runs reports and uses automated dispensing system
  • Conducts monthly inspections of medication stocks in assigned areas
  • Assists with inventory to prevent drug shortages or excesses
  • Handles rotating workflow including inventory, dispensing, phones (inbound/outbound), shipping, and data entry (Specialty)
