Requirements

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician - Board of Pharmacy (active registration in the state of practice within 30 days)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) upon hire or Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon hire
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Ability to work rotating days/evenings/nights/weekends (80 hours/2 weeks)
  • Preferred: High School or GED equivalent; less than 1 year experience

Responsibilities

  • Under pharmacist supervision, accurately input and/or prepare labels and package inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions
  • Communicate with nursing staff, physicians, customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management; participate in interdepartmental work groups and committees
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, personal protective equipment, and patient safety
  • Perform clerical functions including billing, patient demographics, and pharmacy inventory
  • Assist with collection and maintenance of records for Pharmacy Department and accreditations (e.g., Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, Joint Commission, NIOSH, OSHA)
  • Assist customers on the phone or in person
  • Run reports and use automated dispensing system; perform monthly inspections of medication stocks; assist with inventory to prevent shortages or excesses
  • Proficiency in compounding practices (e.g., botox, chemotherapy)
