Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy
  • Puerto Rico Pharmacist license
  • 1-3 years experience preferred
  • Experience in Total Parenteral Nutrition and Hospital IV Admixture Program preferred
  • Experience in personnel supervision preferable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Confirmed understanding of aseptic techniques, chemical reactions, and pharmaceutical processing methods
  • Familiarity with pharmacy computer software and calculations
  • Ability to resolve routine questions and problems
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Strong people leadership skills with a focus on change management

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates work of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • Prepares and dispenses prescriptions for Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and intravenous medications according to Pharmacy SOP and compliance with the state Board of Pharmacy of Puerto Rico
  • Reviews production plan and moves labor to meet schedule attainment
  • Works under the supervision of Pharmacy Manager
  • Assures compounding operations are in accordance with local regulations (MOH)
  • Occasionally works extra hours
  • Ensures a culture of Safety First
  • Ensures effective employee relations by providing mentor and development to the team
  • Resolves employee issues in a timely manner
  • Completes objective setting and performance reviews to cultivate growth and development
  • Promotes collaboration and supervises progress, recognizing achievements along the way
  • Balances quality, efficiency, cost, delivery, and employee morale to achieve outstanding results in all areas
  • Continuously improves processes and procedures to cultivate a culture of excellence
  • Collaborates with the team to identify and implement effective processes
  • Prepares, coordinates, and leads work schedule to achieve shift production targets
  • Assures compliance with company procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Supervises and trains pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, providing ongoing development and feedback
  • Verifies additives and components of solutions before the admixture process begins
  • Performs quality control tests on prepared compounds and maintains logs for regulatory inspection purposes
  • Keeps operational records and approves all TPN and medication solutions for distribution
  • Controls pharmacy materials and waste to maintain a detailed run operation
  • Responds to calls and provides advice to patients, hospital staff, and physicians regarding TPN compounding and safe administration of therapies
  • Keeps physicians, nurses, and other pharmacists advised of new prescriptions or changes in treatment to ensure up-to-date patient care
  • Verifies daily media fills to maintain strict compliance with regulations
