Requirements

  • High School or GED Equivalent and 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred: Associate's Medical Assisting certificate from a college or Medical Office Technology
  • Computer knowledge and skills
  • Medical terminology experience
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates appointment scheduling and follows office scheduling policies/parameters; stays up to date on provider protocols and occupational services
  • Maintains timely flow of patients
  • Schedules tests and procedures at other facilities and referral appointments to other physicians; schedules appropriate follow-up appointments; obtains necessary referrals and authorizations
  • Answers multiple line telephone and routes calls promptly; does not leave caller on hold or unattended for extended periods
  • Alerts appropriate personnel to urgent messages/issues that require immediate attention
  • Assists provider and nurse with support duties including faxing scripts, histories and physicals, sending patient reminder letters, making copies, opening mail, completing disabilities forms, death certificates, and DME forms
  • Prepares exam rooms for specific examinations, ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are present; ensures cleanliness and prepares list of medical supplies needed
  • Rooms patients and takes vitals as requested by the physician or nurse
  • Assists patients with specialty referrals by coordinating follow-up appointments; completes referrals to other providers/entities, compiling, preparing, and faxing/mailing paperwork
  • Reviews all lab, hospital, and other reports and puts in chart as necessary to make a complete chart for patient visits (discharge summaries, ER reports, diagnostic testing, outside notes, labs, etc.); maintains patient records in an orderly fashion and accessible to the provider
