Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities
  • Knowledge of dialysis therapy, including Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), disease process, and vascular access
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Skills in operating hemodialysis machines, including setup, programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, UF modeling, blood flow (QB), and dialysate flow (QD)
  • Ability to monitor patients, evaluate intradialytic problems, obtain vital signs, weights, and perform pre/post treatment evaluations
  • Capable of accurate documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Ability to conduct machine safety checks and ensure safety alarms (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits - NVL 160) are enabled
  • Effective communication skills for customer service, relationship building, and reporting to nurse supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to all customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships via timely communication; respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
  • Welcome assigned patients, inquire about well-being, and report complaints or observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, perform cannulation, and report unusual findings or difficulties to nurse supervisor
  • Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weights; report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders, including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD)
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis, evaluate intradialytic problems, provide interventions as prescribed, and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, discontinue treatment per procedures, evaluate patient prior to venous access termination (standing/sitting BP), achieve hemostasis, and apply dressings
  • Evaluate patient prior to discharge and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Perform and record pre and post dialysis evaluations, weights, and vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
  • Record accurate, timely vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
  • Document patient treatment information accurately, including Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes if applicable
  • Report significant information or changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patients and conduct machine safety checks
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures and disease process/access
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment; setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Actively participate in process improvement activities for QEP goals and patient satisfaction
