Compliance with organization policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations

Responsibilities

Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, evaluate vascular access for patency, cannulate access, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight, and vascular access evaluation
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (QB, QD), evaluate intradialytic problems, intervene as prescribed, and monitor patient response
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, discontinue treatment per procedures, evaluate patient (standing/sitting BP), achieve hemostasis, and apply dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge and record pre/post dialysis evaluations, weight, and vital signs
Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, UF modeling)
Ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits 160)
Record accurate vital signs, treatment parameters, and documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes with initial identification
Report significant information or patient condition changes to RN or supervisor
Observe patient, conduct machine safety checks, document interventions for unusual status, and report findings
Evaluate vascular access during treatment (arterial/venous pressures), intervene as needed, and report unusual findings
Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens
Clean blood spills immediately with appropriate disinfectant
Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies/equipment efficiently to prevent wastage
Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision and assist as applicable
Participate in staff-related activities (e.g., recruitment, as noted in description)
Support Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvements
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
