Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Trained in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and regulations set by corporation, state, and federal agencies
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Knowledge of dialysis therapy, including setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), blood flow (QB), dialysate flow (QD), Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, and UF modeling
  • Ability to calculate and enter individual patients' dialysis machine programming
  • Skilled in obtaining vital signs, weights, and performing pre- and post-dialysis evaluations
  • Capable of monitoring patients' response to dialysis, evaluating intradialytic problems, and providing interventions as prescribed
  • Ability to ensure safety alarms are enabled, including Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160
  • Proficient in accurate and timely documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes

Responsibilities

  • Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, customer service philosophy, Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), and CQI activities
  • Drives FMS culture through values and customer service standards, maintains effective relationships, and resolves customer service issues
  • Assists in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcomes patients, inquires about well-being, reports complaints or observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluates vascular access for patency pre-treatment, performs cannulation, and reports unusual findings or difficulties
  • Obtains pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights, reports unusual findings
  • Administers Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Initiates dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (QB, QD)
  • Monitors patients' response to dialysis, evaluates intradialytic problems, provides interventions as prescribed or directed
  • Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion, performs functions for treatment discontinuation, evaluates patient prior to termination of venous access (standing/sitting BP)
  • Obtains hemostasis, applies dressings, evaluates patient prior to discharge, reports unusual findings
  • Performs and records pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculates and enters patients' dialysis machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling
  • Ensures appropriate safety alarms are enabled
  • Records accurate vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
  • Documents patient treatment information completely, including progress notes if applicable
  • Reports significant information or changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Observes patient and conducts machine safety checks
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
