Ability to function as part of a dialysis healthcare team
Ability to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse

Ability to set up and operate hemodialysis machines
Ability to assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment

Active participation in process improvement activities
Ability to provide patient-specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures and disease process/access
Ability to evaluate vascular access for patency and perform vascular access cannulation
Ability to perform administration of heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Ability to obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight
Ability to initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders
Ability to evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention
Ability to monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy
Ability to obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and perform functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment
Ability to discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures
Ability to obtain Hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings
Ability to perform and record Pre and Post dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs
Ability to calculate and entry individual patients’ dialysis machine programming
Ability to ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
Ability to record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters
Ability to accurately document information related to patient treatment
Ability to report any significant information and/or change in patient condition
Ability to observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
Ability to perform and document any intervention for unusual patient status
Ability to evaluate patients’ vascular access during treatment
Ability to obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection
Ability to clean blood spills with appropriate disinfectant
Ability to prepare, organize, and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment

Responsibilities

Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients
Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment
Support the organization commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI Activities
Participate in process improvement activities
Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their wellbeing
Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform vascular access cannulation
Perform administration of heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight
Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders
Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention
Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and perform functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment
Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures
Obtain Hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings
Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection
Ensure that all blood spills are immediately cleaned
Prepare, organize, and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment
Monitor patients performing self-care under the supervision of RN
Assist in training of applicable direct patient care staff
Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to the registered nurse or supervisor
Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
Perform and document any intervention for unusual patient status
Evaluate patients’ vascular access during treatment
