Requirements

Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Complies with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities
Actively participates in process improvement activities
Knowledge of dialysis adequacy measures (e.g., Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM))
Ability to perform vascular access evaluation and cannulation
Ability to administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (e.g., Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, UF modeling)
Ability to enable safety alarms (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160)

Responsibilities

Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy
Drives FMS culture through values and customer service standards
Provides outstanding customer service to external and internal customers
Develops and maintains effective relationships through communication
Responds, resolves, and follows up on customer service issues timely
Assists in patient education on adequacy measures and disease process/access
Welcomes patients and inquires about well-being; reports complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluates vascular access for patency pre-treatment; reports unusual findings
Obtains pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; reports unusual findings
Performs vascular access cannulation; reports difficulties/unusual findings
Initiates dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (e.g., blood flow (QB), dialysate flow (QD))
Evaluates intradialytic problems and intervenes per physician order/direction
Monitors patient response to dialysis; reports unusual findings
Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion; performs discontinuation functions and documents
Discontinues dialysis per procedures; evaluates patient (e.g., standing/sitting BP)
Obtains hemostasis and applies dressings; evaluates patient prior to discharge
Performs and records pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, and vital signs
Calculates and enters patient-specific dialysis programming
Ensures safety alarms are enabled
Records accurate/timely vital signs and parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
Documents patient treatment information (e.g., Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
Reports significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
Observes patient and conducts machine safety checks
Assists in maintaining safe and clean working environment
Sets up and operates hemodialysis machines
