Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcome patients and inquire about wellbeing
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency, cannulate vascular access, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight, and vascular access evaluation
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (QB, QD)
  • Evaluate and intervene in intradialytic problems per physician order
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and perform discontinuation functions; document
  • Discontinue dialysis per procedures, evaluate patient (standing/sitting BP), obtain hemostasis, and apply dressings
  • Evaluate patient prior to discharge
  • Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, and vital signs
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, UF modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits 160)
  • Record vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Document patient treatment information (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
  • Report significant patient information/changes to RN or supervisor
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks; report changes to RN/supervisor
  • Perform/document interventions for unusual patient status
  • Evaluate vascular access during treatment (arterial/venous pressures), intervene, document, and report
  • Obtain prescribed lab testing and prepare specimens
  • Clean blood spills per facility policy
  • Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies/equipment efficiently
  • Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision
  • Assist in training direct patient care staff on programs
  • Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Assist in maintaining safe and clean working environment
  • Support QEP, CQI activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvements for quality goals
