Requirements

Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Complies with corporation, state, and federal regulations
Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities
Knowledge of hemodialysis procedures, including setup and operation of machines
Ability to perform vascular access evaluation and cannulation
Ability to administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (e.g., UF goal, treatment time, Sodium modeling, UF modeling)
Ability to monitor patients and recognize unusual findings
Ability to document accurately on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes

Responsibilities

Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to all customers
Develop and maintain effective relationships through communication; respond to and resolve customer service issues timely
Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, and report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment and report unusual findings
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings
Perform vascular access cannulation and report difficulties/unusual findings
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (e.g., blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
Evaluate intradialytic problems and intervene as prescribed or directed
Monitor patient response to dialysis and report unusual findings
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform discontinuation functions and document
Discontinue dialysis per procedures; evaluate patient prior to venous access termination (standing/sitting BP)
Obtain hemostasis and apply dressings; evaluate patient prior to discharge and report findings
Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
Ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits 160)
Record vital signs and treatment parameters accurately and timely on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
Document patient treatment information completely, including progress notes if applicable
Report significant information or patient condition changes to nurse supervisor
Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
