No prior dialysis experience required (12 weeks of paid training provided)
Ability to function under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Compliance with organization policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
Support for Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities

Responsibilities

Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (e.g., OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, and evaluate vascular access for patency
Perform vascular access cannulation and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight, and vascular access evaluations
Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments per prescribed orders (including QB, QD, UF goals, treatment time, UF modeling)
Evaluate intradialytic problems, intervene as prescribed, and monitor patient response to therapy
Ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits at 160)
Record accurate vital signs, treatment parameters, and documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
Report significant patient changes or unusual findings to registered nurse or supervisor
Perform and document machine safety checks and interventions for unusual patient status
Monitor vascular access during treatment (arterial/venous pressures) and provide interventions
Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens
Clean blood spills immediately with appropriate disinfectant
Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies/equipment efficiently to prevent wastage
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
Perform pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, obtain hemostasis, apply dressings, and evaluate patients prior to discharge
