Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvement
  • Knowledge of dialysis adequacy measures (e.g., Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), disease process/access)
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, vital signs, weights, heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law), dialysis machine setup/operation/programming (e.g., QB, QD, UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling, safety alarms like Narrow Venous Limits (NVL))
  • Ability to monitor patients, evaluate intradialytic problems, respond to dialysis therapy, perform pre/post treatment evaluations, obtain hemostasis, apply dressings, and discontinue treatments
  • Accurate and timely documentation skills (e.g., Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
  • Effective communication for customer service, relationship building, issue resolution
  • Observation and machine safety checks

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding service to external/internal customers; develop/maintain relationships; resolve issues timely
  • Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, perform cannulation, report difficulties/unusual findings
  • Obtain pre/post treatment vital signs, weights; report unusual findings
  • Administer heparin as delegated/allowed
  • Initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD); program machines (UF goal, time, Na/UF modeling); ensure safety alarms
  • Monitor patient response, intradialytic problems; intervene per physician/nurse direction; report unusual findings
  • Perform pre-reinfusion vital signs, discontinue treatment, evaluate prior to venous access termination (BP), obtain hemostasis, apply dressings; evaluate prior to discharge
  • Record pre/post dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs, treatment parameters accurately/timely with identification
  • Document patient treatment info (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes); report significant changes to nurse supervisor
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures/disease process
  • Setup/operate hemodialysis machines; maintain safe/clean environment; conduct machine safety checks
