Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
  • Supports FMCNA mission, vision, core values, customer service philosophy, Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), and CQI activities
  • Ability to perform setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
  • Ability to assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Ability to drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships through communication
  • Ability to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues timely
  • Knowledge of patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Ability to evaluate vascular access for patency and perform cannulation
  • Ability to obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight, and perform evaluations
  • Ability to administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Ability to initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments per prescribed orders
  • Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ability to enable safety alarms (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits)
  • Ability to accurately document vital signs, treatment parameters, and patient information on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Ability to observe patients and conduct machine safety checks

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to all customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication; take initiative on customer service issues
  • Assist in patient-specific education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcome assigned patients, inquire about well-being, and report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access pre-treatment for patency and report unusual findings
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and report difficulties/unusual findings
  • Administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (QB, QD)
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and intervene as prescribed or directed
  • Monitor patient response to dialysis and report unusual findings
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform functions for treatment discontinuation and document
  • Discontinue dialysis per procedures; evaluate patient (standing/sitting BP) prior to venous access termination
  • Obtain hemostasis and apply dressings; evaluate patient prior to discharge and report findings
  • Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms (e.g., NVL 160) are enabled
  • Record accurate/timely vital signs and parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
  • Document patient treatment information, including Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Report significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
