  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations

  • Ability to perform setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
  • Ability to assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment

  • Ability to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues timely
  • Knowledge of patient education topics: Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), disease process/access
  • Ability to evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, administer Heparin (as delegated or allowed by state law), initiate/discontinue dialysis, monitor patients, obtain vital signs/weights, calculate UF goal/treatment programming, enable safety alarms, and document accurately

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding service to all customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication; take initiative on customer service issues
  • Welcome assigned patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access pre-treatment for patency, report unusual findings; perform cannulation and report difficulties
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights; report unusual findings
  • Administer Heparin as delegated/allowed; initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD)
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and intervene per physician order/direction
  • Monitor patient response to dialysis; report unusual findings; obtain vital signs pre-reinfusion
  • Discontinue dialysis per procedures; evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access (BP standing/sitting)
  • Obtain hemostasis, apply dressings; evaluate patient prior to discharge and report findings
  • Perform/record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits 160)
  • Record accurate/timely vital signs and parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
  • Document patient treatment information (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes if applicable)
  • Report significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
