Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Trained in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and training
  • Compliant with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
  • Ability to setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Capable of performing vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Skilled in obtaining vital signs, weights, and performing pre/post dialysis evaluations
  • Ability to monitor patients during dialysis, evaluate intradialytic problems, and intervene as prescribed
  • Proficient in calculating and entering dialysis machine programming (e.g., UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ability to ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits)
  • Accurate and timely documentation skills (e.g., Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
  • Conducts machine safety checks

Responsibilities

  • Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy
  • Drives FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provides outstanding service to all customers
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through communication; resolves customer service issues timely
  • Assists in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcomes patients, inquires about well-being, reports complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluates vascular access for patency pre-treatment; reports unusual findings
  • Obtains pre and post treatment vital signs and weights; reports unusual findings
  • Performs vascular access cannulation; reports difficulties/unusual findings
  • Administers Heparin as delegated/allowed
  • Initiates dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (QB, QD)
  • Monitors patient response to dialysis; reports unusual findings; evaluates intradialytic problems and intervenes as prescribed
  • Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion; performs discontinuation functions and documents
  • Evaluates patient prior to termination of venous access (standing/sitting BP); obtains hemostasis and applies dressings
  • Evaluates patient prior to discharge; reports unusual findings
  • Performs and records pre/post dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculates and enters patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensures safety alarms enabled (e.g., NVL 160)
  • Records vital signs and treatment parameters accurately/timely on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Documents patient treatment information completely (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
  • Reports significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Observes patient and conducts machine safety checks
  • Assists in maintaining safe and clean working environment
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvements for FMC Quality Enhancement Goals
