Responsibilities

  • Drives FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provides outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through timely communication; responds, resolves, and follows up on customer service issues
  • Assists in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcomes patients, inquires about well-being, reports complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluates vascular access for patency pre-treatment, reports unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Performs vascular access cannulation, reports difficulties/unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Obtains pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight, reports unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Administers Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Initiates dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
  • Evaluates intradialytic problems and provides interventions as prescribed or directed
  • Monitors patients' response to dialysis therapy, reports unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion; performs functions for treatment discontinuation and documentation
  • Discontinues dialysis per procedures; evaluates patient prior to venous access termination (standing/sitting BP)
  • Obtains hemostasis and applies appropriate dressings
  • Evaluates patient prior to discharge, reports unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Performs and records pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculates and enters patient-specific dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensures appropriate safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits NVL 160)
  • Records accurate/timely vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
  • Documents patient treatment information (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes if applicable)
  • Reports significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Observes patient and co-workers (description cuts off)
  • Sets up and operates hemodialysis machines
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Actively participates in process improvement activities for patient satisfaction and QEP goals
