Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Adheres to FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and compliance with corporation, state, and federal regulations
Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, core values, customer service philosophy, Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), and CQI activities

Responsibilities

Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers
Develop and maintain effective relationships through effective and timely communication; take initiative to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
Assist in providing patient-specific education on adequacy measures (e.g., OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome assigned patients, inquire about wellbeing, report complaints or observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Obtain necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Perform vascular access cannulation; report difficulties or unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Perform administration of Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (e.g., blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed or directed
Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy; report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform functions for treatment discontinuation and document
Discontinue dialysis treatment per established procedures
Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access (standing/sitting blood pressure)
Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge; report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
Calculate and enter individual patients’ dialysis machine programming (e.g., UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits 160)
Record accurate and timely information on vital signs and treatment parameters onto Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
Accurately document patient treatment information, including Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes if applicable
Report significant information or changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
Assist in setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
Assist in maintenance of a safe and clean working environment
